Midway across Michigan, at the Food Castle in Grand Blanc Township, was where the winning ticket for the enormous $842 million Powerball jackpot on Monday night was purchased.
WNEM: GRAND BLANC TWP., Mich. The winning ticket for the enormous $842 million Powerball jackpot on Monday night was purchased at the Food Castle in Grand Blanc Township, in the middle of Michigan.
The prize won in Michigan is the second-largest jackpot ever. The lump sum cash value is $425,250,000.
Until they get in touch with the lottery, nobody knows who the winner is.
A Waterford resident who hit the $70 million jackpot in the Powerball game in 2020 was the last player from Michigan to win a prize.
TV5 spoke with the proprietor of the 30-year-old business where the ticket was bought early on Tuesday, January 2.
It's fantastic since you typically hear about incidents like that occurring in other states. It's fantastic for this neighbourhood. "It's a great place to live and work in Grand Blanc," Food Castle owner Bill Nannoshi said.
To claim their prize, the jackpot winner must visit the Lottery Headquarters located in downtown Lansing and make an online claim.
On Tuesday, a few of Food Castle's frequent patrons stopped by to express their joy over the news.
Food Castle salesperson Susie expressed her hope that a local person will be the winner.
"I am thrilled. My hope and prayer is that it's one of our frequent clients, and that they will be able to make good use of it. The fact that something wonderful is finally happening in Grand Blanc has thrilled all of our customers, and I just hope it keeps going. "Perhaps this will spread positivity throughout the town," she remarked.
Juan, a Grand Blanc Township resident and Food Castle patron, offered his opinions on the Powerball lottery.
It's pleasant. I suppose I made a mistake. Since I frequently play here, it wasn't my ticket. Gosh, congrats to the winner. It's excellent, in my opinion, since, as everyone typically says, "Oh, nobody ever wins in Michigan." Only places like Florida and California are winners. So it's good to hear that someone from our town prevailed. Sadly, it wasn't me, Juan remarked.
Jessica Weare, the acting commissioner of the Michigan Lottery, stated in a statement:
"This morning, a fortunate Michigan Lottery player received incredible news—they had won the $842.4 million Powerball jackpot on New Year's Day! This kind of jackpot supports neighbourhood companies, and ticket sales fund Michigan's public education system. Food Castle of Grand Blanc, the merchant who sold the winning ticket, will get a bonus commission of $50,000. Since it started in October, the Powerball jackpot run has aided the Lottery in achieving its goal of increasing income to fund public education in Michigan. For the fifth year in a row, the Lottery has contributed more than $1 billion to support schools. This past month, the Lottery revealed that it would be contributing more than $1.3 billion to the School Aid Fund for Fiscal Year 2023. The announcement of a Michigan Powerball jackpot winner excites everyone at the Lottery! To the grand winner, congratulations!
